SHIELD - Certified/Non-Certified Search

SHIELD
State of Florida Criminal History Record Checks,
    Reviewed and Provided by FDLE

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) provides several methods for requesting a criminal history record check. The funds collected when the FDLE provides criminal history information to the public are allocated by the Legislature to support criminal information systems for use by law enforcement throughout the state. There will be a charge of $24.00 against your debit or credit card for each name search of the Florida criminal history database, regardless of search results.

Your request will be entered into FDLE's SHIELD system, FDLE staff will process the request, and mail the results to the address specified in your search request. The accuracy of your search results depends on the accuracy of the information provided.

Step 1 - Mailing Address:

Please provide the mailing address where you would like the search results sent.

Step 2 - Enter Search Subject:

Please provide the demographic information for your search subject. You may enter multiple search subjects in your request. You may also enter up to ten (10) aliases for each search subject. The accuracy of the results provided depends on the accuracy of the information entered here.

Step 3 - Request Confirmation:

Please review and confirm the search subject information you have provided. You will have the opportunity to edit and correct any information previously entered. Additionally, you will be given the option to indicate if you would like the results to be certified, and also if you wish to have the certified results translated to Spanish*.

*Note: Spanish results are available only on certified non-idented search results. Rap Sheets cannot be translated.

Step 4 - Payment Information:

Please enter your payment, including billing address and debit or credit card number.

Step 5 - Payment Receipt:

Please retain a copy of your receipt for your records. You can either email it or print your receipt from the web browser. Your transaction is now complete.

Optional Step 6 - Instructions on Expedited Mailing:

Results are delivered through the United States Postal Service's (USPS) standard mail service. If you wish for your results to have expedited mailing, the following steps must be taken:

*Please note FDLE's processing time does not include US Mail delivery time. The timeliness of mail delivery service may be affected by a number of factors outside the control of FDLE.

If you plan to purchase a prepaid shipping label, it must be supplied to FDLE on the same day as your request. Prepaid shipping labels received outside of this time period will not be accepted.

  1. Submit your certified and/or non-certified request as normal.
  2. Purchase a prepaid shipping label from the USPS.
  3. Email a PDF version of your purchased prepaid shipping label and the FDLE Control Number to ApplicantChecks@fdle.state.fl.us. The FDLE Control Number is located on the receipt from Step 5.
